Hayden Crossland Sets Fastest-Ever ADC Lap at SMP — The Bar Has Been Raised
Pakelo Lubricants Carbon Racing driver Hayden Crossland put in a lap at Sydney Motorsport Park that reset the benchmark for Hyper Racer X1 performance on the circuit.

Numbers don't lie. When Hayden Crossland crossed the timing line at Sydney Motorsport Park with the fastest lap the Australian Drivers' Championship had ever produced at that circuit, it wasn't just a personal milestone — it was a statement about how quickly the entire field has progressed.
The Hyper Racer X1 was already quick at SMP. Its combination of ground-effect downforce, low weight, and Hayabusa power makes it genuinely rapid on circuits with high-speed sections. But the lap Crossland produced was something else — a commitment to every corner, a willingness to explore the limits that even experienced competitors hadn't fully mapped.
That lap time placed the X1 clearly in rarefied territory in Australian single-seater racing. For a car that can be run competitively for under $12,000 a season, the performance numbers are startling. The Hyper Racer team has always maintained that the X1's lap times at Victorian circuits are comparable to a Supercars machine, and Crossland's SMP benchmark didn't do anything to undermine that claim.
More broadly, Crossland's SMP performance reinforced his status as one of the most exciting young talents in the ADC field. The Ferrari Academy background suggests an instinct for finding time that ordinary racers don't possess. When he gets it right — and the mechanical reliability issues that plagued his 2025 season are behind him — he has the potential to be the genuine article.
For Dean Crooke and Hyper Racer, seeing what the car can do when a driver with real ability is at the wheel is satisfying. For everyone else in the championship, it's a reminder of the standard they need to reach.
